I wanted to guide you through the process of migrating your domain to Shopify. There are two ways to connect your domain to Shopify, depending on whether you want to transfer it to Shopify or just connect it while keeping it registered with your current provider.
Option 1: Connecting Your Domain to Shopify (Recommended)
If you want to keep your domain with your current registrar but use it for your Shopify store, follow these steps:
- Log in to your domain provider (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, etc.).
- Find the DNS settings or Domain Management section.
- Update the following records:
-
A Record: Point it to Shopify’s IP address:
23.227.38.65
-
CNAME (www): Set it to
shops.myshopify.com
-
A Record: Point it to Shopify’s IP address:
- Save the changes and go to Shopify.
- In Shopify, navigate to Settings > Domains and click Connect existing domain.
- Enter your domain and follow the prompts to verify the connection.
DNS changes may take up to 48 hours to propagate, but it's usually much faster.
Option 2: Transferring Your Domain to Shopify
If you want Shopify to manage your domain completely, you can transfer it by:
- Unlocking the domain in your current registrar’s settings.
- Getting the transfer authorization code from your domain provider.
- In Shopify, go to Settings > Domains and click Transfer domain.
- Enter the domain name and follow the prompts.
- Approve the transfer through the email confirmation from your current provider.
A domain transfer can take up to 7 days to complete, and Shopify will renew your domain automatically each year.
Which Option is Best?
If you're comfortable managing your domain settings, connecting it is the fastest and most flexible option. If you’d rather have Shopify handle everything, transferring may be a better choice.
Let me know if you need help with any step, and I’d be happy to assist!
