Tax IDs Now Added to Commercial Invoices for Managed Markets Orders

Shopify Updates:

Understanding the New Tax ID Requirement

In certain countries, customs officials mandate that shipments include customer Tax IDs for smoother processing. This policy aims to ensure compliance with local regulations and streamline cross-border operations.

Countries Currently Affected

The Tax ID requirement currently applies to orders shipped to the following Managed Markets:

  • Brazil: Tax ID inclusion is necessary to comply with customs policies and avoid shipment delays.
  • China: Customer Tax IDs are required for accurate documentation at customs checkpoints.
  • South Korea: Customs processing demands the addition of Tax IDs for efficient entry clearance.

How Shopify Is Simplifying Compliance

For orders to these countries fulfilled through Shopify Managed Markets, customer Tax IDs provided at checkout will now be automatically embedded into commercial invoices. This update eliminates the need for merchants to manually add this information, ensuring seamless global shipping.

Future Expansions

Shopify remains committed to keeping your business compliant as new regulations emerge. This functionality will be extended to additional countries if and when they introduce similar Tax ID requirements.
