Cancel In-Progress Workflow Runs
Shopify now allows you to cancel workflow runs while they're in progress. Whether the run is executing a wait step or retrying due to an error, this powerful update puts you in control.
Why This Update Matters
Previously, workflow runs could automatically retry for up to 36 hours after encountering a transient error. This meant you had to wait for all retries to complete before rerunning your workflow. With the new feature, you can cancel active runs immediately, saving time and streamlining your workflow processes.
How to Cancel a Workflow Run
- Navigate to the workflow run details page to cancel a specific in-progress run.
- Cancel multiple runs directly from the “Recent runs” section on the workflow's summary page.
- Turning off a workflow will now automatically cancel any in-progress workflow runs as well.
Benefits of the Cancel Feature
The ability to cancel in-progress workflow runs offers several key advantages:
- Faster feedback loops for testing and building automations.
- Elimination of delays caused by retries, giving you more control over your workflows.
- Improved workflow development efficiency by resolving issues promptly.
