Enhanced Limits for Metafield and Metaobject Definitions

Enhanced Limits for Metafield and Metaobject Definitions

Shopify Updates:

More Flexibility for Custom Data Structures

Shopify has increased the limits for metafield and metaobject definitions, empowering merchants and app developers to build more flexible and complex custom data structures.

Key Updates for App Developers

  • Each app gets its own allocation, ensuring no competition between apps for definition space.
  • Developers can now create richer metadata and support larger catalogs without concern for imposed limits.

Key Benefits for Merchants

  • Increased limits better support workflows involving multiple apps.
  • Higher capacity enables merchants to meet custom data requirements seamlessly.
  • Larger libraries of metaobjects and metafields allow for more granular data structures.

Changes to Metaobject Definitions

  • App Definitions: Each app installed on a shop can create up to 128 metaobject definitions.
  • Merchant Definitions: Merchants on Basic, Shopify, or Advanced plans can create up to 128 definitions, while Plus and Enterprise plans allow for 256 definitions.
  • Metaobject Entries: Each definition can now support up to 1,000,000 entries, a significant increase from previous restrictions (64,000 entries for non-Plus plans and 128,000 for Plus plans).

Changes to Metafield Definitions

  • App Definitions: Each app can create up to 128 metafield definitions per resource type.
  • Merchant Definitions: Merchants can add up to 256 metafield definitions per resource type.
  • Important: Standard definitions do not count towards these limits.
