Expanded Shopify POS PIN Options for Enhanced Security

Shopify Updates:

Introduction to Updated POS PIN Options

Shopify is committed to improving the security and usability of its POS systems. To help businesses bolster their security measures, Shopify POS now supports PINs up to 6 digits.

Key Features of the Updated PIN System

The new PIN system gives merchants flexibility to manage staff access securely. Here's what you need to know:

  • Staff can now use 4, 5, or 6-digit PINs to log in to POS.
  • All PIN lengths can be assigned using the 'Manage Staff' permission in your POS Channel or POS app.
  • Make sure devices used for POS are updated to support 5- and 6-digit PINs, as older devices may only allow 4-digit PINs.

Steps to Update PINs

Updating staff PINs is simple and can be done by anyone who has the 'Manage Staff' permission. Follow these steps:

  • Login to your Shopify admin or app.
  • Navigate to the POS Channel and select the staff member whose PIN you want to update.
  • Assign a new PIN with the desired digit length (4, 5, or 6 digits).
  • Verify that your POS device is running the latest software update.

Why You Should Update to Longer PINs

Longer PINs provide an added layer of security, reducing the likelihood of unauthorized access. Businesses handling sensitive data or that experience high staff turnover may find this particularly useful.
