How to Migrate D2C Customers and Orders to B2B Companies

Shopify Updates:

Why Migrate D2C Customers to B2B Companies?

Shopify's new feature allows merchants to seamlessly migrate existing D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) customers and their order histories to an existing B2B (Business-to-Business) company. This is particularly valuable for Shopify Plus merchants who have historically managed B2B operations through their D2C storefronts.

Key Benefits of This Feature

  • Allows for better segmentation of customer types (D2C vs. B2B).
  • Consolidates order history under B2B companies for more accurate data analysis.
  • Simplifies customer management for merchants handling mixed operations.

Eligibility for Migration

This feature is applicable only for migrating D2C orders and customers. B2B orders cannot be moved using this functionality.

How to Migrate Customers and Orders

Step 1: Access the Customer Profile Page

Navigate to the profile of the D2C customer you wish to migrate. Ensure the customer's details and order history are correctly documented.

Step 2: Use the Company Profile Page

Alternatively, you can initiate the migration from an existing company's profile page. Select the target company where the customer will be migrated.

Step 3: Confirm Migration

Follow the prompts to complete the migration process. Only orders classified as D2C will be transferred to the B2B company. B2B orders remain unaffected.

Best Practices

  • Ensure the target B2B company is correctly set up with appropriate account details.
  • Communicate the migration to customers to avoid confusion regarding account changes.
  • Double-check migrated order histories to ensure all relevant data has been successfully transferred.
