Introducing Granular Permissions for Gift Cards
Shopify has introduced new, detailed permissions for managing gift cards, providing merchants with greater control over staff access. Previously, a single permission granted staff access to perform a wide range of actions including creating, editing, exporting, and deactivating gift cards.
Four New Gift Card Permissions
To enhance security and flexibility, Shopify now offers four distinct gift card permissions:
- View: Allows staff to view gift card details without making changes.
- Create and Edit: Enables staff to create new gift cards or edit existing ones.
- Export: Grants permission to export gift card data for external use or record-keeping.
- Deactivate: Provides the ability to deactivate gift cards when necessary.
Automatic Transition for Existing Permissions
All existing staff members previously assigned the singular gift card permission will automatically inherit all four new permissions to ensure seamless backward compatibility. Merchants can modify these permissions to implement more precise access control.
How This Benefits Merchants
This change empowers merchants to better secure their business by limiting access to sensitive actions, creating a more tailored access structure for their team.
