Introducing Granular Staff Permissions for Orders

Introducing Granular Staff Permissions for Orders

Shopify Updates:

Enhanced Control with Granular Permissions

Managing staff permissions has never been easier. Previously, the single 'Orders' permission granted staff access to a broad range of actions, including editing order attributes, managing payments, fulfilling and shipping orders, and even canceling or deleting orders. This one-size-fits-all model could lead to challenges for merchants who needed more specific control.

12 New Order Permissions

To address this, Shopify now offers 12 new granular staff permissions tailored to specific order-related tasks. This update empowers merchants to customize access and ensure staff members have only the permissions they need. Here's the full list of new permissions available:

  • View orders
  • Manage order information
  • Apply discounts
  • Set payment terms
  • Capture payments
  • Mark as paid
  • Fulfill and ship orders
  • Buy shipping labels
  • Process returns
  • Cancel orders
  • Delete orders
  • Manage abandoned checkouts

Enhanced Control for Merchants

All existing staff members who previously had the singular 'Orders' permission will automatically be granted all the new permissions. This ensures a seamless transition without disrupting workflows. Merchants can then adjust individual permissions to meet their specific business requirements.

These granular controls provide a higher level of flexibility and security, enabling merchants to delegate tasks with confidence while maintaining control over sensitive operations.
