Smarter International Pricing with Adaptive Pricing for Managed Markets

Shopify Updates:

What is Adaptive Pricing for Managed Markets?

Adaptive pricing for Managed Markets ensures your international product prices automatically adjust to include duties, taxes, currency conversion, and merchant of record fees. This allows customers to see transparent, localized prices at checkout with no hidden charges, while your payout amounts remain consistent with domestic orders.

How Adaptive Pricing Works

When adaptive pricing is enabled, Shopify derives international prices from your domestic prices using the following steps:

  • Currency conversion: Prices are converted using a stabilized exchange rate guaranteed for a week, ensuring consistent and predictable pricing for your customers.
  • Inclusion of duties and taxes: Product prices include all applicable import duties and taxes, providing one clear price at checkout and eliminating surprise fees.
  • Managed Markets and FX fees: These fees are included in the price, maintaining predictable margins for your business.
  • Smart price rounding: Prices are rounded to look clean and natural in every currency.

The result? International customers enjoy localized, all-inclusive pricing that feels like shopping with a local store. Meanwhile, you receive payouts just like domestic orders: domestic price minus payment processing fees. Shopify handles the rest.

New Tools in Your Shopify Admin

Shopify has added helpful tools to your admin to provide clarity and control over adaptive pricing:

  • Market toggles: Enable or disable adaptive pricing for each market on its details page.
  • Payout breakdowns: View order payout calculations, including duties, taxes, FX, and fees, via a detailed modal on the order details page.
  • Pricing audit trail: Access a full breakdown of how international prices are calculated from your domestic prices.

Getting Started with Adaptive Pricing

Adaptive pricing is available now for all Managed Markets merchants using Shopify Payments. Here’s how to turn it on:

  1. Go to Settings > Markets in your Shopify admin.
  2. Select a market managed by Managed Markets.
  3. In the pricing section, toggle adaptive pricing on.

Once enabled, localized, all-inclusive prices will automatically be generated for the selected market.

Key Considerations

  • Applicable merchants: Adaptive pricing is available on Managed Markets powered by Shopify Payments; merchants who onboarded after October 14, 2025, already have access. It will be available to earlier merchants starting March 26, 2026.
  • Fixed prices: Products with fixed prices for specific markets will not have adaptive pricing applied. Ensure these prices account for duties, taxes, and fees to maintain margins.
  • Gift cards: Adaptive pricing does not apply to gift cards.
  • Refunds and order edits: Refunds and order edits are automatically handled for duties, taxes, and fees included in the price.
  • Disable anytime: Adaptive pricing can be turned off at any time, reverting your markets to the standard duty-exclusive pricing model.
