Enhanced Storefront Filter URLs with Stable Identifiers

Enhanced Storefront Filter URLs with Stable Identifiers

Shopify Updates:

Updates to Storefront Filter URLs

Starting March 16, 2026, Shopify storefront collection filter URLs will utilize stable group identifiers instead of text values when filtering by a filter group. Previously, URLs were created with text-based filters, such as the product option 'Color,' resulting in links like:

  • yourstore.com/collections/all?filter.v.option.color=Blue

With this update, the URLs now use stable identifiers like:

  • yourstore.com/collections/all?filter.v.option.color=gid://shopify/FilterSettingGroup/123

Actions You Need to Take

If you have previously shared filter links in ad campaigns, emails, social media posts, or anywhere else, those links will no longer apply the expected filters. To update these URLs:

  • Visit the relevant collection page on your online store.
  • Select the desired filters.
  • Copy the updated URL directly from your browser's address bar.
  • Replace old links in your campaigns or shared posts with the new URLs.

Filter navigation within your store remains functional, and customers will automatically receive the correct URLs when selecting filters.

Benefits of This Change

By introducing stable identifiers, filter links are now more reliable across multiple languages and when filter labels are renamed. This update aligns text-based filters with the functionality already established for other filter types, improving overall consistency across your Shopify store.
