Introducing Greater Flexibility for Shopify Markets
Shopify has introduced an exciting improvement for Shopify Markets, allowing merchants to customize their primary market in ways that were not previously possible. This enhancement gives you greater control over how you target your audience and operate your store on a global scale.
What is a Primary Market in Shopify?
The primary market is the main country and currency combination determined for your store based on its general settings upon creation. For example, if your store is based in Germany and uses Euros as its currency, Germany would automatically be set as the primary market.
What Has Changed?
Previously, merchants could not modify the country or currency of their primary market. Shopify now enables you to:
- Change your primary market to a country of your preference, regardless of your store's location.
- Select a currency to suit your target audience and business needs.
- Customize pricing for the primary market, ensuring it differs from your store’s default values if needed.
How Does This Benefit Merchants?
This update is ideal for businesses whose target audience or operational focus differs from the location of their store. For example, a store headquartered in Canada may choose the United States with US Dollars as its primary market to align with its customer base.
Important Notes
The primary market can still only include one country. Merchants looking to further customize their markets or pricing can find additional information and step-by-step instructions in the Shopify Help Center.
