Enhanced Staff Permissions Explained
Shopify has introduced new granular permissions to give merchants greater control over staff access within the Online Store and Settings sections. These changes offer improved delegation and enhance the security of your store.
New Edit Code Permission
Previously, staff with the Themes permission could edit store themes using both the theme editor and the code editor. Now, with the new Edit code permission, merchants can separately control who has access to the code editor.
- The Edit code permission is distinct from the Themes permission, allowing focused access control for staff.
- This new permission does not affect access to the Shopify CLI tool, which remains under the Themes permission.
Separate Permissions for Settings
Staff permissions for Taxes and duties as well as Policies in Settings have been streamlined. Previously, access to these areas required the Manage settings permission. Now, merchants can assign separate permissions for each.
- Allocate permissions for Taxes and duties independently to ensure better staff management.
- Assign access for Policies separately, improving clarity and reducing oversight risks.
Why These Changes Matter
The introduction of these granular permissions provides greater flexibility and security for merchants. By segmenting access rights for critical areas of your store, you can better manage staff roles and responsibilities.
